As a graduate myself, I know that whilst concentrating on exams, it can be hard to think about career plans. At times it can be easier to push it to the back of your mind and think: ‘I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it’ , but speaking from my own experience, preparation for your future can actually make things a lot easier.

The Yorkshire Graduate Recruitment Fair 2014 can help you to do this and has so much to offer with over 100 exhibitors split into a local and national zones. This year’s theme is ‘it’s not too late to get a graduate job’ and will have employer led workshops, along with the chance to gain an interview on the day. It will be held in the Edge between 11am – 3pm on Monday 9th June, so get down there and find the opportunity that’s right for you.

I always find planning for the actual event itself can make the day flow much better and also helps you to identify who you want to see and build confidence in approaching them. It would be beneficial for you to register in advance on the YGRF website to secure your place and also receive regular employer/opportunity updates enabling you to make the most of the careers fair. There is also a section about how to prepare for the fair, which is extremely beneficial. If you’re on Facebook, you can connect through the website to see if any of your friends are going.  You can also come along on the day to register; however, you may have to queue.

Signing up on the YGRF website also gives you the chance to see the programme of several employer led workshops available throughout the day. One new aspect to the event is an interview area which employers can use at any time throughout the day, make sure you dress to impress and you may be in with the chance of gaining a job at the end of it!

To conclude, get your CV checked, make sure it is up to date and tailor it towards the employer you want to approach. Sign up to the website to ensure you read all the preparation tips and reasons to attend, then that’s it, you are good to go.

Good luck and enjoy the day. Don’t be scared to approach employers, just make it easier for yourself by researching them before hand and attending the workshops.
