What is marketing?

“Marketing is the management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably.”
The official academic definition from The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

Think of it as creating a strategy to sell a product, event or service. Simply put, marketing is finding out what the consumer wants, and trying to make your product fit that description. Continue reading

The Business and Finance Mini Fair 2013

On 24th October 2013, twelve major graduate employers will be coming on campus to meet students at the Business and Finance Mini Fair. Held in the Business School foyer, it is an unmissable event for any student who is considering a career in business or finance and wants to meet large corporate employers!

Have you started to think about which companies you might like to work for once you graduate? Well if you’re a final year then we really hope so! With Graduate Scheme deadlines looming, and competition for jobs more fierce than ever, it’s important to give yourself the best chance possible.  Careers fairs are a great way to interact face-to-face with potential employers, ask any burning questions you have for them and really make a lasting impression. But the fair isn’t just for final years! It’s also a great opportunity for 1st and 2nd years who are looking for internships, insight weeks, industrial placements or would just like to get ahead of the game and meet potential future employers. What is your job at the Careers Centre and what does it involve? 

I am currently on a work placement year, but once I am back at university I will return to my final year studying a BA in Communications. My degree is left relatively open, with few compulsory modules so you can really make the degree in to what you want it to be! As to where it can lead, there are many jobs that can come about following a degree in Communications, including academia, PR, journalism, marketing and social media. Continue reading
